Cookie Policy

1. About Cookies

This Cookie Policy explains how Meetcanada uses cookies and similar technologies on the website meetcanada.org. Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to give site owners information about how their pages are used. A cookie typically contains the name of the website it came from, how long it lasts, and a value — usually a randomly generated identifier. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser ("session cookies"), while others remain on your device until they expire or you delete them ("persistent cookies").

Meetcanada is an independent travel guide and comparison platform, and we keep our use of cookies deliberately minimal. We use them to remember your consent choice and to keep the Site functioning correctly — not to build advertising profiles of you. Most of the cookies and storage items we rely on do not identify you personally; they simply hold a preference value or a short-lived technical token. We believe in being transparent about these small files so that you can make an informed decision about how you browse meetcanada.org, and we explain each one in plain language below rather than hiding them in technical jargon.

2. Cookies We Use

The table below lists the cookies and local-storage items used on meetcanada.org, their purpose and how long they last:

Name Type Purpose Duration
cookie_consent Strictly necessary Stores whether you accepted or declined cookies so the consent banner is not shown again. Persistent (local storage)
Server session / log Strictly necessary Keeps the Site secure and operational and helps diagnose technical issues. Session

Note that the cookie_consent preference is technically stored in your browser's local storage rather than as a traditional cookie, but it serves the same purpose of remembering your choice and is treated here as part of our cookie practices.

3. Strictly Necessary Cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the Site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set only in response to actions you take, such as recording your cookie preference or maintaining the security of your session. Without these, parts of the Site may not work properly. Because they are essential, we rely on our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functional website to use them.

4. Analytics and Performance Cookies

Meetcanada does not currently use third-party analytics or performance cookies that track you across sessions for measurement purposes. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this policy, list the relevant cookies in the table above, and where required obtain your consent through the cookie banner before they are placed.

5. Advertising and Marketing Cookies

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not sell your data to advertisers. While Meetcanada earns affiliate commissions from featured tour operators, those relationships do not place tracking cookies on your device through our Site — any tracking that occurs happens on an Operator's own website after you click through, under that Operator's policies.

6. Managing Your Cookies

You can manage cookies in two ways. First, when you visit meetcanada.org for the first time, our consent banner lets you Accept or Decline; your choice is remembered for future visits. Second, you can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time:

  • Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies

Please note that blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies may affect how the Site works, including whether your consent choice is remembered between visits.

7. Legal Basis and More Information

Our use of cookies is consistent with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law. We rely on our legitimate interest for strictly necessary cookies and would rely on your express consent for any non-essential cookies introduced in the future. For more about how we handle personal information generally, please read our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes and Contact

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology or law. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at hello@meetcanada.org.
